Three women are in a room. One is seated at a table with a plate of food, while two stand behind her. The standing women wear face masks and gloves. The setting appears to be a community or dining area with tables in the background.

The theme for the April 18-24, 2021 National Volunteer Week is Shining a Light on the People and Causes That Inspire Us to Serve. It is also a milestone week at Aase Haugen, as they are able to welcome back volunteers. “We are grateful to be able to welcome our volunteers back and recognize all they do to support the residents and staff at Aase Haugen,” says Orson Bauder, Aase Haugen administrator. “Because we have worked so hard to meet and exceed the state and federal guidelines related to COVID-19, we are able to welcome back these fully-vaccinated volunteers who are so inspiring and talented.” Volunteers follow the same covid-testing requirements as staff and all participate in testing each week according to state regulations.

National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. “Our volunteers help us to carry out our mission,” says Andrea Hexom, Aase Haugen activities supervisor. “Their presence changes our days in the most positive of ways – they help make us stronger. They truly are shining lights for us and all the people we serve.”

Aase Haugen recently held a socially distanced Spring Fling event along with the help of volunteers. New guidelines now allow fully-vaccinated volunteers who screen weekly to serve at the nursing home.
