Local skilled nursing center hosts events during the annual observance

Aase Haugen Senior Services will host drive-by parades on Tuesday, May 11, Wednesday, May 12, Thursday, May 13 and Friday, May 14 at 3:30pm each day, as part of National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), which runs from May 9-15, 2021. The theme for this year’s national observance, “Together through the Seasons”, pays homage to staff  who  heroically protected and cared for residents and their families around the clock every day as challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic created social distancing rules that prevented residents from in-person visits with loved one.

The community is invited to participate in the parades which celebrate the seasons of the year. Join in by decorating your vehicles or dress up to walk, bike or drive around the Aase Haugen Nursing Home from 3:30 to 4pm each day.

The themes are:

  • Tuesday, May 11: Spring Theme
  • Wednesday, May 12: Summer Theme
  • Thursday, May 13: Fall Theme
  • Friday, May 14: Winter Theme

“We are so proud of our staff and residents who have shown amazing resilience during the pandemic,” said Orson Bauder, Aase Haugen administrator. “This year, we recall all those seasons we weathered together, and we are looking forward to celebrating with our residents and families with the parades.”

Area nursing home administrators will visit with the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting on Monday, May 10 and request the board will sign a proclamation recognizing Nursing Home Week in Winneshiek County.  Administrators from the four Winneshiek County Nursing Homes will attend the meeting on behalf of their organizations and staff.

Aase Haugen Senior Services is one of the top twelve employers in Winneshiek County, and has been serving the community for generations – since 1915. Aase Haugen Senior Services is an all-embracing, all- inclusive senior living organization, providing a continuing care retirement community in a Christian environment, which nurtures the body, mind and soul, leading to healing and hope for all.

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NSNCW, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, provides an opportunity for residents and their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and surrounding communities to acknowledge the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Aase Haugen Senior Services joins all skilled nursing care facilities nationwide to celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 9-15. The theme is ‘Together through the Seasons.’ During the week the Aase Haugen staff will join with the residents and invite the community to pay homage to the seasons of the past year’s pandemic and the resiliency of staff and residents.
