The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) are constantly providing COVID 19 guidance to Iowa long term care facilities. These agencies have made numerous revisions to Phase I visitor restrictions. Aase Haugen will follow these guidelines for family visits.

All family visits will depend on the outbreak status of the facility. One positive staff test can be considered an out break which means we cannot allow visits for 14 days following a positive COVID test result.

All family visits should be conducted outside if possible unless outside temperatures and weather conditions are inappropriate for family and resident to enjoy the visit.

Outside Visits

  • Visits will take place in a tent outside the main entrance in front of our dining room.
  • Everyone MUST wear a mask and have a COVID19 screen with temperature.
  • Hand sanitizer will be required.
  • Social Distancing will be enforced with a 6 ft table, no touching /hugging.
  • Limit to two family members per visit.
  • Visitors must be age 10 or older.
  • No food or drink will be allowed.
  • No Pets will be allowed.
  • Visit times may be limited to allow as many visits as possible to residents.
  • Chairs, table, and tent poles will be sanitized between each visit.
  • Visits will be monitored by staff.
  • Visitors are required to have a COVID19 screen with temperature with departure.

Inside Visits

  • Visits will take place in an office on our G-Wing. So please use Valley Drive and look for the signage. There is a sidewalk to an outside door that is not alarmed. There is seating available outside snow covered or not. We would suggest families wait in the car until they are waived in by Activities staff. Reminder that you should park across the street as parking is not permitted on our side of the street.
  • Families will be allowed to enter the office and will remain in the office. The door will be closed. When ready a solid plexiglass shield will cover the entire door opening and held into place magnetically. Monitors on over bed tables allow both families and residents to hear on both sides.
  • Everyone MUST wear a mask and have a COVID19 screen with temperature.
  • Hand sanitizer use will be required
  • Social distancing will be enforced until the staff member can open the door and put into place the Plexiglas shield.
  • Residents will then be brought to the other side of the Plexiglas shield.
  • Limited to two family members per visit
  • Visitors must be age 10 or older
  • No food or drink allowed
  • No pets allowed
  • Please do not touch the shield.
  • Visitors will be required to have a COVID-19 screen with temperature before exiting.
  • Chairs, tables and any touched surfaces will be sanitized between each visit.
  • Visits will be monitored by staff.

Compassionate Visits

  • If one of our residents is admitted to hospice/ has a significant change of condition/or needs a psychological / social help. This will be determined by the doctor, director of nursing, social worker and administrator.
  • These visits are different as we would allow two family members to come into our building putting our other residents and those visitors potentially at risk. Unless the resident is able to attend the visit outside their room. Then we will advise family where to come in to have a visit close to that entrance.
  • Generally, we would like to move these residents closer to an entrance/ exit door to minimize other incidental contact with others depending on circumstances.
  • Visitors will be directed to come into the closest door to their loved one. We do not want visitors walking through our facility.
  • Visitors should come wearing masks. We will provide appropriate PPE according to the situation. If you are visiting a loved one with a COVID diagnosis, please be prepared to wear everything necessary to protect yourself.
  • Hand sanitizer will be required if we allow you not to wear gloves.
  • We would prefer to do two visits, let’s say one on Monday and one on Tuesday and then wait at least five days in between before we allow another visit. This is to see if anyone has signs or symptoms. If no, then another two visits can be arranged.
  • Each visitor will have a complete COVID19 screen with temperature.
  • Social Distancing is requested and can be enforced.
  • Limit to two family members per visit.
  • Visitors must be age 10 or older
  • No food or drink will be allowed.
  • No pets will be allowed.
  • Visit times may be limited but this will be determined based on the situation. Time and days can be expanded if a loved one is passing.
  • When exiting the building you will be required to have another COVID19 screen with temperature.

Thank You for your understanding with these measures. We are trying to protect everyone.
