An elderly man is seated on an exercise machine, wearing glasses, a light shirt, and purple pants. A smiling woman in a striped sweater stands beside him. Behind them is a green wall and exercise equipment.
Pictured above is Don Brandt with Mary Capouch, CMA, restorative therapy supervisor at Aase Haugen. Mary has been customizing Don’s restorative therapy program to help him build strength and stamina. Don says, “You’ve got to have drive and determination to strengthen your body and I have it...with help from Aase’s team!”

Aase’s restorative therapy program’s primary goal is to provide consistent restorative therapy to residents to support their best quality of life. “This type of therapy helps residents maintain or improve their strength and stamina which can prevent further deterioration of a condition or prevent new or additional complications,” says Mary Capouch, CMA, Aase’s restorative therapy supervisor.

The interdisciplinary team at Aase includes physical, occupational, speech and restorative therapy. This team regularly reviews resident progress and challenges and works together to customize individual therapy plans and goals for each resident.

Aase Haugen has long been a leader in restorative care. The Restorative program not only individualizes plans for residents, but also includes group programming, such as the daily ‘Let’s Get Moving’ event to promote and encourage residents through group exercise.

Another standard therapy is the ‘Walk to Dine’ programming to encourage residents to get up and walk to the dining room for each meal. “I believe restorative therapy can help residents adjust to new problems or limitations and improves their quality of life,” says Capouch. “All the little movements can add up to big rewards.”  To learn more, contact Mary Capouch at 563-382-3603.
